Indications have emerged that the Federal Government is making moves to relocate
Engineering students of the University of Abuja to other universities.

The Faculty of Engineering is among the University’s
programmes that are yet to get accreditation from the Nigeria Universities
Commission and its students have been embroiled in several protests in recent
times, aimed at drawing attention to their plight.

Minister of
Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufai Ahmed said today that the universities
where the students are to be re-absorbed have already been notified. She said
this would pave way for the Engineering programme to gain fresh accreditation.

The minister spoke in Abuja after a delegation of the National
Association of Nigerian Students led by its President Yinka Gbadebo, appealed to
the Federal Government to set up an emergency fund to purchase all the necessary
equipments needed to facilitate accreditation for the Engineering faculty of the
institution.
